ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford College women's basketball team fell to the Ashford University Saints 62-47 Wednesday at the Seaver Center. The first half was a back and fourth affair with both teams trading baskets through the first six minutes. Senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) gave Rockford their only lead of the game when she got fouled on a made layup and hit the free throw to put the Regents up 11-10. Ashford would then go on a 21-8 run to go up 31-19 with three minutes remaining in the first half. Junior forward Jessica Bjerning (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) would bring Rockford within 10, by scoring the last 3 points of the half for the Regents.
Ashford would start the 2nd half with a quick 10-4 run to give the Saints a 16 point lead that they would maintain through the rest of the 2nd half. Ashford out rebounded Rockford 41-31 and forced the Regents into 19 turnovers. Jessica Bjerning sparked the Regents with a team-high 13 points and 4 rebounds while coming off the bench. Nicole Lawler finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Junior guard Arielle Nichols (Tampa, Fla./Land O' Lakes) would add 7 points for Rockford.
The Regents will hit the road on November 24th for their Northern Athletic Conference opener against Aurora University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
