ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford College men's basketball team beat the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 72-67 Wednesday night at the Seaver Center. The first half was back and fourth as both teams came out trading baskets. The 1st half saw 9 lead changes with the largest lead being 5 points by Wisconsin Lutheran with 12:31 remaining. Both teams shot very well with Rockford shooting 60% from the field and Wisconsin Lutheran shooting 53.6%. The opening half came to a close when senior forward Sam Chones (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) made a lay-up with 3 seconds remaining to tie the game at 33-33.
Wisconsin Lutheran came out of the break with a quick 6-0 run to take a 39-33 lead until junior guard Scott Suchy (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) hit a pair of free throws to put an end to the run. With the Regents down 44-41 junior forward Tory Minnifield (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) hit a 3 pointer to tie the game with 14:35 remaining in the 2nd half and the Regents wouldn't look back. Rockford would hold off the Warriors for the rest of the half for their second straight Northern Athletics Conference victory. Scott Suchy led the way for the Regents with a game-high 21 points and 4 steals. Tory Minnifield finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. The Regents also got a good performance from senior guard Grant Olsen (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) who finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
The win is the second straight for the Regents who are now 2-4 (2-0 NAC) and in second place in the division trailing 3-0 Aurora. Rockford will host Benedictine University on Saturday, December 8 at the Seaver Center. Tip-off is set for 4:15 p.m.
