ROCKFORD, Ill. - Coming off an overtime victory, the Rockford College men's basketball team was put to the test once again against visiting Maranatha Baptist Bible College as they look to climb the Northern Athletic Conference standings. Despite taking a quick 4-0 lead off a basket by junior guard Arthur Miller IV (Burlington, Wis./Burlington), the Regents fell behind 16-6 with 12:46 remaining in the 1st half. Rockford used a 14-0 to storm back and take a 20-16 lead due in large part to freshman guard John O'Bryan (Richmond, Ky./Madison Central) who knocked down two 3-pointers and a layup during that stretch. The Regents entered the half with a 36-30 lead despite shooting 3-10 from the free throw line.
The Regents started the half with two early buckets and took their biggest lead of the game when Miller IV made a pair of free throws for a 45-34 lead. The Crusaders forced nine 2nd half turnovers to get themselves back in the game and tied the score at 67-67 with a 3-pointer from the corner with 2:09 remaining. Junior guard Scott Suchy (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) knocked down a pair of free throws with 90 seconds left giving the Regents a 69-67 lead before Maranatha knocked down a jumper in the lane with 5 seconds remaining forcing a second straight overtime game for the Regents.
Rockford dominated the 5 minute overtime period with a quick 11-2 run to start the period with two minutes remaining. Suchy would score 7 of the Regents 19 points in overtime as they hung on to a 88-78 victory Saturday night at the Seaver Center. The Regents would be led by Suchy who finished with a career-high 34 points and 9 rebounds. Junior forward David Dixon (Bellwood, Ill./St. Joseph) scored 22 points to go with 15 rebounds. O'Bryan came off the bench to score 13 points in 15 minutes of action.
