CHICAGO, Ill.- The Rockford University women's team recovered quickly from a lopsided loss in their season opener in the Chicago tournament. After losing to the University of Chicago Friday night they took on the Illinois Institute of Technology and came away with a dominate 90-34 win to finish third in the tournament. Rockford controlled the game from end to end and led by a wide margin 49-7 after the first half. After struggling to score baskets the previous night Rockford rebounded well and shot 53.7% from the field and 75.7% from the line, making a total of 28 free throw shots. They out rebounded Illinois Institute 46 to 35 and finished with 16 assists and 16 steals.
Rockford was once again led by Lindsay Lengjak (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah). She scored 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting and added in 7 rebounds. Also scoring double digits was Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) with a game high 24 points. She shot an impressive 8 for 11 from the field and 6 of 7 from the line. Katie Clark (Rock City, Ill./Dakota) again dominated on the boards as she led the Regents with nine rebounds and also scored six points. Arielle Nichols (Tampa, Fla./Land O' Lakes) continued to do well off of the bench as she was the third Regent to score in double digits, finishing with ten points. In total, 14 different Regents scored a basketball.
Rockford takes on Knox College in Rockford next on Tuesday November 19th. Last year they beat Knox on the road 77-66. Their first conference game of the year is on November 30th when they travel to Milwaukee to take on MSOE at 4:15 p.m.
