Regents Come up Short in Five Sets

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Rockford University volleyball team played its third straight road match on Saturday morning as the Regents traveled to Fond du Lac to take on the Marian University Sabres. Although Rockford had previously been eliminated from postseason contention, the Regents entered the match hoping to play the role of spoiler. However, it was the Sabres who came out victorious with the 3-2 win.

Offensively Rockford had bar far its best performance so far on its current five-match road trip. Seniors Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) and Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) tied for the team led with 10 kills each. The ten kills were a season-high for Scheri, and it was the tenth time so far this year that Hasken recorded double-digits in kills in a match. Junior Kayla Kurz (Franklin Grove, Ill./Ashton-Franklin Center) also played well as she tallied 8 kills for the Regents on just 18 attack attempts. As a team, Rockford had a better than 2-1 kill-to-error ratio as the ladies recorded 41 kills to just 20 attack errors.

Defensively Rockford also played a stellar match as the Regents tallied 68 digs, 24 block assists and 5 solo blocks. Freshman Ashley Simmons (Naperville, Ill./North) led the Regents in every defensive category. Simmons recorded a match-high 22 digs and tied for the team lead with 6 block assists and 2 solo blocks. Hasken's and Kurz also tallied double-digit digs with 15 and 14 respectively. In addition Kurz tied for the team high with 6 block assists and 2 solo blocks.

The Regents will conclude their season next week with a pair of road contests. Rockford will travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, October 22 for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Warriors before finishing its season next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Benedictine University.
