JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over MacMurray College. Rockford played a very sound game defensively to pitch its second shutout of the season en route to the Regents first win since October of 2012.
After a scoreless first half, Rockford struck in the 59th minute to give themselves a 1-0 lead. Freshman Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson) found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal. Manriquez took a total of 4 shots in the match with 3 of them on goal including the game-winning goal.
From that moment on the Regents relied on their defense and freshman goalkeeper Kyle Adams (St. Louis Mo./Timberland). Adams tallied 6 more saves adding to has NACC leading 42 saves so far this season.
Offensively the Regents did a much better job putting pressure on the MacMurray defense. Rockford recorded 13 total shots with 10 of them on goal. Freshman Tham Mana (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) tallied a team-high 4 shots on goal. Junior transfer Jeffrey Green (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) recorded the remaining 3 shots on goal for Rockford.
