SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell on the road Tuesday night 81-73 to the Lakeland College Muskies. The Regents got off to a sluggish start scoring just one point and committing 8 turnovers in the first six minutes as they trailed 15-1. Lakeland's lead hovered around double-digits for most of the first half before Rockford made a late run scoring the final 8 points of the half. Sophomore Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) knocked down a three-pointer to cut the Muskie lead down to single-digits before Diamond Williams (Carpentersville, Ill.) scored the final three points to make it just a 5-point game entering halftime.
The second half got off to a good start for Rockford as the Regents continued to chip away the deficit. Junior guard Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill) knocked down a jumper to pull her team back within three points for the first time since the opening minutes of the game. However, the Muskies promptly bit back going on a 9-2 run and pushing their lead back into double-digits. Unfortunately Rockford was never able to get any closer than 7 points for the remainder of the game falling by a final of 81-73.
Senior Katie Clark (Rock City, Ill.) continued her torrid play as of late. Clark scored a team-high 18 points off the bench on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting performance. She also grabbed 3 rebounds, blocked 3 shots and had 2 assists.
Diamond Williams, Taylor Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) and Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights) all played well in the loss. Williams scored 11 points on just 3-of-6 shooting while grabbing 7 rebounds and blocking 1 shot. Davis had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists off the bench. Key added 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
The women's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, January 10 at home against Marian University. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
