Getzelman Shoots Rockford Past Aurora

ROCKFORD, Ill.- Coming into Tuesday night's game against the Aurora University Spartans, the Rockford University Regents women's basketball team had lost its previous three games. The Regents could have easily gone 2-1 in that stretch as two of the games were decided in the final minute of the game. Rockford has also played well at home recently, going 3-2 in its last five home games. So it was no surprise that Rockford came out hot and dominated Aurora for most of the game. Rockford shot a blistering 58% from the field for the game, including 5-of-11 from behind the three-point line. The Regents led 40-29 at half and cruised the rest of the way to win 75-60.

Mallorie Getzelman's (Byron, Ill.) sharp shooting from behind the three-point line in the first half set the tone for the Regents offense for the game. She nailed all three three-pointers she shot and scored 13 points altogether in the first half. Diamond Williams (Carpentersville, Ill.) also scored in double-digits in the first half with 11 points. Katie Clark (Rock City, Ill.) added eight points off the bench for the half.

Rockford continued hitting shots in the second half and its strong defensive play also continued. At the 7:38 mark, Williams made a layup to put the score at 67-40 to give Rockford its biggest lead of the game at 27 points. Aurora did go on a 16-4 run over the next six minutes to cut the Regents lead in half, but time was against the Spartans and the game was never in doubt. Rockford led the game for all 40 minutes and held Aurora to just 39% shooting from the field. The Regents also outrebounded the Spartans 41-25 and the Regents bench outscored the Spartans bench 23-10.

Getzelman finished with a career high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She also recovered four rebounds, had three assists, and two steals. Williams had yet another dominate game on both ends of the court. She finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. She added in four assists, a steal and a block.

Not to be out done, Clark scored 19 points off the bench in just 23 minutes. She made 8-of-11 of her shots and added in eight rebounds. Finding Getzelman, Williams, and Clark all game was Casey Pettit (Rockford, Ill.) who finished with a career high eight assists. As a team Rockford finished with 22 assists which tied the team season high.

The Regents play next on February 7 at 2:00 p.m. when they host Edgewood College.
