Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot-Shooting Leads #14 Benedictine Past Rockford

LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team kicked off its four-game road trip on Wednesday when the Regents took on fourteenth-ranked Benedictine University. Rockford entered the game looking for its first win of the season, but unfortunately came up short falling 96-65. Offensively the Eagles lit the nets on fire shooting 53.2% from the floor and 43.3% from beyond the arc. Benedictine also outscored the Regents 50-26 in the paint and 20-4 in fastbreak points.

However despite what the final score might indicate, Rockford played very well early on. The Regents led 2-0 right out of the gate as senior Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill.) knocked down the game's opening jumper. Benedictine would respond though with a 13-0 run to push its lead to double-figures for the first time. However, Rockford was not intimidated as the Regents continued to fight and claw their way back into the game cutting the Eagle lead down to just a single point. Freshman Ben Weber (South Beloit, Ill.) and sophomore Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) combined to score 9 points as the Regents went on a 14-4 run to make it 17-16 midway through the first half. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse over the next 4 minutes and 30 seconds as Benedictine scored the next 14 points and never looked back. Rockford was never able to get back within striking distance for the remainder of the evening falling by a final score of 96-55.

Offensively the Regents were led by the trio of Zach Wallace, Tony Diemer and Ben Temrowski (Rochester, Mich.). Wallace recorded his third double-double of the season with a team-high 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist. Diemer scored in double-digits for the fourth straight game with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Temrowski added 9 points off the bench, going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.

The RU men's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, December 3 at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Tip-off is set for 4:15 PM.
