ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Saturday to take on Edgewood College in Madison, Wis. Rockford was still seeking their first conference victory of the season and played well throughout the game but ultimately fell by the final of 74-60.
To begin the game Edgewood jumped out to an early lead before Rockford used an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game in large part due to five early points from Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.). The Regents could not hold onto the lead falling behind 20-16 by the end of the opening quarter. Rockford could not muster any offense in the second quarter being outscored 25-5 and trailing 45-21 at halftime.
The Regents came out on fire to begin the third quarter starting with a 9-0 run to drop the deficit to 15 points midway through the quarter. From that point each team traded baskets until Taylor Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) hit a three-point buzzer beating shot to end the third quarter. The shot brought the deficit down to 11 points, 54-43. Unfortunately the closest the Regents could get was seven points in the final quarter, ultimately falling by the final of 74-60.
Leading Rockford offensively was Getzelman with a team-high 16 points and 4 rebounds. Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) scored 13 points and 3 rebounds. Davis had 12 points and 3 rebounds. Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) recorded 10 points and 7 rebounds.
The Rockford University women's basketball team will return to action Wednesday, February 10 to take on Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wis. with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
