Rockford Falls To Lakeland

ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action today to take Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Regents were unable to keep up with the hot-shooting Muskies. Rockford fell by the final of 78-66.

In the first period the game remained tight for the first four minutes until the Muskies hit a three-pointer to make the score 14-7. Rockford was unable to narrow the deficit any further trailing 21-11 at the end of the period. The second period the Regents could barely muster any offense and fell behind 49-21 at halftime. Leading Rockford for the first two periods was Taylor May (East Moline, Ill.) with 8 points.

The Regents made some great adjustments in the final two periods as they were able to narrow Lakeland's lead multiple times. To begin the third period Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) powered the Regents' 9-0 run, by drilling back-to-back three-pointers, to narrow the deficit to 49-30 with just over seven minutes remaining. However, Lakeland responded by increasing their lead to 67-37 at the end of the period. In the final period, Rockford scratched and clawed their way back into the game with an 18-0 run over the final five minutes of the game to narrow the margin to 78-66. Unfortunately, the Regents could not get a basket to fall in the final minute of the game to fall by the final of 78-66. Rockford shot the ball 36.2% from the field, but went 25-of-30 from the free-throw line, good for 83.3%.

Leading Rockford offensively was Taylor May with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Nicole Silvers finished with 18 points, on 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Her six three-pointers made was one shy of the school record. Silvers also grabbed 2 rebounds. Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) added 18 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Defensively, Tajanae Key (Gendale Heights, Ill.) recorded 4 steals and 4 blocks.

The Rockford University women's basketball team returns to action Wednesday, January 18 to take on Dominican University at the Seaver Center with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
