CHICAGO, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-23, 2-18 NACC) dropped its final game of the season on Saturday, 69-58 on the road to the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks (1-23, 1-19 NACC). The game was extremely close through three quarters of play, as the two teams entered the fourth tied at 47-47. Illinois Tech outscored Rockford 22-11 in the final period, largely thanks to a perfect 11-for-11 performance at the free throw line, to seal the win.
- Saturday's game was a statistical dead heat that featured 16 lead changes and 11 ties. The two teams made the exact same number of field goals (22) and three-pointers (4) and were separated by just 0.7% in field goal percentage (40.0% to 39.3%). However, the major deciding factor in the game was free throw shooting. Illinois Tech had a 11-point advantage at the charity stripe, shooting 21-of-24, compared to 10-of-14 for the Regents.
- The entire first quarter was played within a five-point range, with neither team leading by more than three points.
- Rockford's first lead of the game came with 5:30 remaining, when Lexi Rangel (Prophetstown, Ill.) drained the Regents' first field goal of the day, making it a 7-5 game.
- The two teams continued to trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter, until Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) tied the game in the final seconds of the period.
- The largest lead for either team in the second quarter was once again three points.
- Rockford used a quick 5-1 run midway through the period to take a 25-22 lead. Katlyn Fiorucci (Machesney Park, Ill.) drained a three to get the scoring started, and Nicole Silvers capped off the run with a made jumper.
- The lead would change hands multiple times over the remainder of the period, before Rockford took a 31-28 advantage into the break.
- The Regents opened the second half with a 7-2 to take their largest lead of the day at 38-30. Sammi Russell (Winnebago, Ill.) and Linzy Keller (Machesney Park, Ill.) led the charge with four and three points respectively.
- However, Illinois Tech answered right back with a 9-1 run of its own to tie the game at 39-39 with 4:33 left in the quarter.
- The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the period, as the game headed into the fourth all tied up at 47-47.
- Unfortunately, the Regents went on a scoring drought of 4:34 in the final period. The Scarlet Hawks took advantage with a 7-0 run and jumped out in front 56-49.
- Rockford was able to pull back within five points at 56-51, but Illinois Tech promptly scored the next five points to take a ten-point advantage.
- The Scarlet Hawks then went a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line down the stretch en route to a 69-58 win.
- Senior Nicole Silvers led the Regents with a team-high 16 points on 7-for-15 shooting. She also added 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block and 1 assist to her totals.
- Lexi Rangel narrowly missed her first double-double of the season on Saturday. Rangel finished with 13 points, tied her season-high with 9 rebounds, had 2 steals and 1 assist.
- Senior Linzy Keller was the final Regent to hit double-figures in scoring. Keller tallied 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
