ALMA, Mich. - The Rockford University football team (1-2) dropped its second game in as many weeks, 51-16, on the road Saturday afternoon at Alma College (2-1). It was a difficult day for the Regents, as Alma found the end zone on its first six possessions of the game. However, Rockford played much better in the second half, as the Regents held the Scots to just 10 points over the final 30 minutes.
- Alma found the end zone on each of its first six possessions including five straight touchdowns to start the game and jump out to a 34-0 lead. Quarterback Ryan Stevens had a one-yard touchdown run on the game's opening possession to give the Scots a 7-0 lead. Stevens then tossed touchdown passes of 31 yards and 25 yards on Alma's next two drives to put the Scots out in front 21-0. The Scots tacked on two more rushing touchdowns on their next two possessions to extend their lead to 34-0.
- The Regents were finally able to answer with touchdown on their first drive of the second quarter. Rockford needed just 7 plays to cover 65 yards and find the end zone. The key play on the drive came on third and nine, when quarterback Tyler Burnham connected with Joey Owens for 39 yards to put the ball at the Alma 25-yard line. Four plays later, LaVar Johnson Jr. plowed into the end zone from nine yards out. Gerardo Zamudio converted the point after, to make it a 34-7 game.
- Unfortunately, the Scots found the end zone on their next possession to take a 41-7 lead into the break.
- The second half got off to a much better start, as the Regents received the opening kick, and marched 82 yards on 8 plays for their second touchdown of the game. Rockford threw the ball just twice on the drive, but once again, it was the combination of Tyler Burnham and Joey Owens that provided the big play. Burnham hit Owens for a 35-yard completion to give the Regents a first and goal at the Alma 2-yard line. One play later, LaVar Johnson Jr. found the end zone for the second time in the game, with a 2-yard touchdown run. Zamudio's extra point was good, as Rockford now trailed 41-14.
- The Scots again answered right back with a touchdown on their opening possession of the second half. Alma quarterback Ryan Stevens scored his second rushing touchdown of the day, giving him four total scores in the game.
- Rockford's final points of the game came courtesy of its defense and special teams midway through the fourth quarter. RU punter Gerardo Zamudio pinned the Scots up against their own end zone after booming a 54-yard punt, which was downed at the Alma 2-yard line. Three plays later, Rockford's Bryce LaFollet and Austin Carlson combined to sack Travis Disser in the end zone for a safety.
- The two schools complied a combined 20 yards for the remainder of the game, as Alma went on to win by a final score of 51-16.
