Regents Unable to Overcome Slow Start

LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-11, 0-9 NACC) fell 93-43 on the road Tuesday evening to the first-place Benedictine University Eagles (11-2, 8-0 NACC). Benedictine opened the game on a 21-0 run and never looked back. Despite the rocky start, Rockford played much better in the second and third quarters. The Regents played the Eagles to a 24-24 tie and the second and were outscored by just four in the third. Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to overcome the difficult start, as the Eagles went on to win their tenth game out of their last eleven.

  • The game got off to a rough start, as Benedictine scored the first 21 points of the evening.
  • Rockford was able to score six points over the final 3:51 of the period led by four points from Linzy Keller
  • The Regents rebounded from a rocky first quarter and played toe-to-toe with the Eagles in the second. The two schools each scored 24 points in the period, as Rockford began to catch fire from the floor. The Regents shot a blistering 60.0% (9-of-15) from the floor, including an incredible 83.3% (5-of-6) from three-point range. Emily Cox led the Rockford attack with 11 points in the period, followed by five points each from Linzy Keller and Sammi Russell
  • However, the Eagles were equally as hot in the period. Benedictine tickled the nets for 24 points on 66.7% shooting, to take a 58-30 lead into the half.
  • Unfortunately, things did not get any better in the second half. Benedictine outscored Rockford 35-13 over the final 20 minutes en route to a 93-43 win.

  • Emily Cox finished with a team-high 18 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.
  • Linzy Keller narrowly missed her first double-double of the season. Keller tallied 13 points, a season-high 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
  • Sammi Russell added 7 points, 1 rebound and 1 block off the bench.

The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Thursday, January 16 against Dominican University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM in the Seaver Center.
