ELGIN, Ill. - The Regents (0-6) fell in straight sets Friday morning to host Judson University (6-8) in their first of four matches this weekend at the Judson University Invitational. Despite the loss, Rockford had one of its better matches defensively this season, setting program-highs in digs (33), block assists (10) and total blocks (5). However, it was not enough, as the Eagles came out victorious by a final score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18).
- The Regents came roaring out of the gates in the opening set and took a 7-4 lead. Rockford tallied four of its seven points off the serve of Jeremy Weaver, including a service ace.
- However, Judson quickly responded with a 7-1 run of its own to retake the lead at 12-8.
- Rockford was unable to get any closer than three points the remainder of the way, as Judson took the opening set 25-16.
- The second set got off to a rocky start, as Judson scored four of the first five points.
- Fortunately, Rockford strung together a trio of points to knot the set at 4-4. Matthew Seger scored two of the three points, including a kill and a service ace.
- Unfortunately, the Eagles used a 17-6 run over the next few minutes en route to taking a commanding 2-0 advantage.
- Rockford would not go away quietly though, as the Regents used a 7-1 run to open the third set. Jorge Pando and Matthew Seger each tallied a service ace, while Ryan Gillfillan recorded a kill.
- However, Judson answered with an 11-1 run of its own to take a 12-8 advantage.
- With the Eagles still clinging to an 18-16 lead, Judson ran off five straight points to seize control of the match.
- The Regents were able to cut the deficit to six points, but ultimately, it was the Eagles who came out on top 25-18 and won the match in straight sets.
- Randall Simental finished with a team-high 5 kills, 9 digs and 2 block assists.
- Jorge Pando added 13 assists, 2 kills, 2 block assists, 1 dig and 1 ace.
- Matthew Seger had a team-high 11 digs, 3 kills and 2 aces.
The RU men's volleyball team returns to the court later today at 4:30 PM against Aquinas.
