ROCKFORD,Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (4-3, 3-1 NACC) won its last home stand 82-68 against Concordia Chicago Cougars (0-8, 0-4 NACC). The Regents had a slow start to the game with the Cougars keeping pace. However, that did not stop Rockford from establishing the lead for 79.8% of the game. Defense proved to be the deciding factor of the game as the Regents out-rebounded the Cougars 39 to 26 with Rockford having 11 offensive rebounds and 28 defensive rebounds to Concordia's 10offensive and 16 defensive rebounds. Kevin Diemer was an unstoppable force for the second night in a row, tallying his second double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
- Concordia got things started with a two point jumper. But, it was all Regents from there with Rockford going on a 20-8 point scoring run to lead the Cougars 20-10 with 11:07 left in the first half. An abundance of Regents got in on the action led by De'Marius Bonds scoring six points, followed by Kevin Diemer scoring five points, Nick Phillipsknocking down a three-pointer for three points, Ashton Singleton, Daelyn Franklin and Micah Swanson all adding two points.
- The Cougars inched their way back within four points by going on a 12-6 point scoring run to trail the Regents 26-22 with 5:19 left in the first half.
- The Regents held on with a 8-4 point scoring run to increase the lead 34-26 with 1:34 left to play in the first half. Kevin Diemer, Brandon Emerick, Ashton Singleton and Micah Swanson all added two points during this stretch for the Regents.
- Concordia made a late push scoring five unanswered points to close out the first half down by three, 34-31.
- Nick Phillips and Brandon Emerick gave life to the Regents by hitting back-to-back big three-point baskets to start the second half tacking on an extra six points to increase the lead 40-31.
- The Cougars answered with a 12-0 scoring run to eventually take over the lead 43-40 with 15:22 left to play in the game.
- The lead changed five times as the Regents and Cougars kept battling and trading baskets until Brandon Emerickcreated some space with a three-point basket to put the Regents up 49-47 with 12:14 left to play in the game.
- The Cougars kept clawing away and hit a three-pointer at the 8:39 mark in the second half to pull ahead 56-55.
- The Regents soon found its footing at the 6:49 mark in the second half starting a 20-6 point run to allow the Regents to be in control leading the Cougars 80-66 with 1:17 left to play in the game. Rockford's scoring run was highlighted by Kevin Diemer who had six points during it sinking a massive three-pointer. Kivontay Shaw, Brandon Emerick and De'Marius Bonds all played a role scoring four points each, while Ashton Singleton helped out with a layup for two points.
- Despite the Cougars efforts, it was not enough to stop the Regents, Rockford went on to claim victory for the second night in a row against Concordia, 82-68.
- Kevin Diemer recorded his second double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Diemer also had an assist and a steal.
- Brandon Emerick scored a season high 16 points with 6 assists and 4 steals.
- De'Marius Bonds tallied 10 points with 5 rebounds and a steal.
- Nick Phillips scored 9 points with 2 rebounds.
- Kivontay Shaw had 9 points with 8 assists, a block and a rebound.
The RU men's basketball team returns to the floor on Friday, February 19 to begin its four game NACC road series starting with Dominican University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
