ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (0-7, 0-7 NACC) fell 62-44 Saturday evening to the Benedictine University Eagles (2-0, 2-0 NACC). Rockford struggled to get anything going on the offensive end of the court. The Regents shot 26.6% (17-64) from the floor, while the Eagles shot 33.3% (19-57). Although, the largest difference came from the free-throw line with the Regents shooting 54.5% (6-11), while the Eagles shot 87% (20-23). The Eagles were in control for the entire game, scoring the first 11 points and not looking back en route to the win.
- The Regents quickly fell behind in the first quarter after the Eagles scored the first 11 points.
- Rockford fought hard to bring it within three points with an 8-0 run. Naynay Clark hit a three-pointer and a free-throw, while Au'Drina Terhune added a layup and Evelyn Abundes chipped in a jumper.
- However, Benedictine University closed out the first quarter with a 13-3 run to lead 24-13.
- Rockford only scored four times in the second quarter allowing the Eagles to increase its lead 33-21 going into the half.
- The Eagles showed no signs of stopping in the third quarter, bringing the score to 43-25 at the 4:37 mark.
- However, the Regents mounted a vicious come-back with a 12-0 run to end the third quarter. Naynay Clark led the scoring run with a three-pointer and a free-throw. Kiara Stevens added a layup and a free-throw for the Regents. Evelyn Abundes knocked down a three-pointer and Da Sani Hannah recorded a layup.
- The fourth quarter was all Eagles as the Regents only scored five times going on to lose 62-44.
- Naynay Clark recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists.
- Neve Yerk tallied 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 assists and a steal.
- Kiara Stevens added 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
The Regents return to the court on Saturday, February 27 at home against Benedictine University. Tip-off is set for 5 PM.
