LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University softball team (10-6) was swept Thursday night by the 18th ranked University of Dubuque Spartans (12-4). In the first game, the Regents tied the Spartans 5-5 in the sixth inning, but the Spartans pulled ahead winning the first game 7-5 in extra innings. Unfortunately, Rockford was able to score only one run in the first inning of game two, losing 11-1 in five innings.
Game 1: Dubuque 7 Rockford 5 (8 innings)
- The Spartans were the first to get on the board in the first inning scoring four runs on a wild pitch and a double down the left-field line.
- Dubuque increased its lead in the second inning scoring a run from a single to center field making it 4-0.
- Rockford got on the board in the bottom of the second with Michaela Spanbauer scoring on an error by the right fielder.
- The Spartans scored again in the third inning scoring a run from a single through the right side.
- Both teams were held without a run until the bottom of the sixth when Rockford tied the game at 5-5 by scoring four runs. Breanna Collins doubled to right field to score Gretchen Schrubbe. Paige Korsan hit a single and scored Michaela Spanbauer. Destiny Kelsey hit into a fielder's choice scoring Breanna Collins. Annaka Bartz added to the Regents scoring efforts with a big triple to left-center to score McCathran Andrew.
- However, the Spartans had the last say in the eighth inning, scoring two runs on a double through the left side taking the win 7-5.
Game 2: Dubuque 11 Rockford 1 (5 innings)
- The Spartans struck first with a run in the first inning from a sacrifice fly gaining an early 1-0 lead.
- The Regents matched the Spartans with a run in the bottom of the first, scoring on a wild pitch was Annaka Bartz.
- Unfortunately, the Spartans took control and dominated for the rest of the game.
- Dubuque scored two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to take game two 11-1 in five innings.

The RU softball team returns to the field on Saturday, April 3 to face Concordia University Chicago. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 PM at CUC.
