CUW Pulls Away from Rockford in the Fourth Quarter

MEQUON, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell 62-45 on the road Saturday afternoon to the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. CUW entered Saturday's meeting against Rockford fresh off an upset road win over NACC juggernaut, Wisconsin Lutheran College. Rockford however was not intimidated and answered each Falcon haymaker with one of its own for pretty much the entire game. Statistically, things were pretty close in most areas. However, CUW had distinct advantages in a couple of spots, most notably in shooting percentage. Despite taking just two more shots than the Regents, the Falcons made seven more baskets, which led to a 44.4 field goal percentage for CUW, compared to just a 32.7 shooting percentage for Rockford.

  • Rockford continued to close the gap in the opening moments of the third quarter. The Regents scored seven of the first eleven points, including a triple by Tyra Clark, to make it just a 37-30 CUW lead.
  • However, the Falcons responded with seven straight points to push its lead back out to 14 with 4:24 left in the quarter.
  • With CUW still leading by 14 and only 8:15 left in the game, Rockford put together one final scoring burst. The Regents scored the next six points, capped off by a Katie Paredes three-pointer, to make it a 48-40 game.
