CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team fell 1-0 on the road to Blackburn College to open its 2023 season. The Regents actually outshot the Beavers 13-8 in the match, including a slim 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Unfortunately, it was the lone Beaver goal, which came in the 12th minute, that turned out to be the difference in the match.
- The Regents had the first shot on goal very early on in the match. Javier Palacios fired a shot towards the Blackburn net early in the fifth minute, but the Beaver keeper made the save to keep the match scoreless.
- Blackburn was awarded a free kick after a foul on the Regents about seven minutes later. Jacob Sauvage took the kick and scored the first goal of the match to grab a 1-0 lead.
- Rockford had a second shot on goal attempt late in the first half, but Matt Polovin's shot was saved by the Blackburn goalie and the Beavers took a 1-0 lead into the half.
- The Regents' final shot on goal came in the 49th minute of the match. Enzo Muncy lined up a shot and sent it towards the net, but it was again saved by Beaver goalie to keep it a 1-0 game.
- Unfortunately, that was the final shot on target for the remainder of the match, as Rockford fell by a final score of 1-0.
