FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Rockford University baseball team fell 9-3 to Heidelberg University in a neutral site matchup to kick-off the spring break trip for the Regents. Rockford fell behind early and while they battled in the early innings, the Regents were unable to recover. From the 4th inning forward, Heidelberg was able to take control of the game with 3-run inning in its half of the 4th and they were later able to tack on with another run in the 6th inning. Rockford found it tough to get things going for the rest of the game and the Knights were ultimately able to walk away with the win over the Regents.
- Both teams were held in check in the first inning, with pitchers Aaron Monti and Heidelberg's Corbin Caplan limiting both offenses to just 1 hit a side to get things started.
- Heidelberg was able to get on the board first with a 2-out triple to clear the bases and put the Knights up 2-0, and they later tacked on with a single to plate the runner from third and go up 3-0.
- The Regents were able to get their own production in the bottom of the second thanks to a lead-off single by Alex Perez to start the inning, a single by Nick Burdin to keep things going and after a sacrifice bunt to move the runners, Zach Duke was able to get Rockford on the board with an RBI groundout to make the score 3-1.
- The Knights again scored in the top of the third thanks to a bases loaded hit by pitch and a wild pitch to add onto their lead and make it a 5-1 game.
- Rockford was able to bounce back in its half of the inning with an RBI single from Alex Perez and a bases loaded walk from Enrique Melendez Jr. to put the Regents within 2 in a 5-3 game.
- The scoring frenzy continued as the Knights were able to tack on three more runs thanks to a 5-hit inning that provided a 2-run blast and a solo shot to put Heidelberg up 8-3 in the top of the 4th inning.
- Neither team was able to add-on until in the 6th inning the Knights were able to tack on another run and make it a 9-3 game with 12 outs remaining for the Regents to get back into it.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to muster up any more scoring and was held in check as Heidelberg was able to walk away with the 9-3 win.
- Nate Burdin provided a 2-2 day at the plate with 2 singles and 2 walks.
- Alex Perez went 2-5 with 2 singles, an RBI and a run scored
- Arys Gil tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief.
