PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Rockford University softball team fell twice on the road Saturday afternoon to the Lakeland University Muskies. The Muskies are one of the hottest teams in the NACC, having now won 13 straight games and are also in sole possession of first place in the conference. Rockford just could not get anything going offensively throughout the doubleheader. The Regents had just eight combined hits and scored two runs, dropping the games by final scores of 9-1 and 8-1.
Game 1
- Lakeland broke the game open with a trio of runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Muskies had four hits, including a two-run triple by Abby Heitman, to take an early 3-0 lead.Â
- The score remained the same until the Muskies plated four more runs in the third. Lakeland had just three hits in the inning, but capitalized on three RU errors to score its four runs, all of which were unearned.Â
- Rockford finally got on the board with a single run in the top of the fourth. Emily Down began the inning with a single and then advanced to second and third following a hit batter and a walk to load the bases. Makayla Howard then drove in Down on a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-1 game.
- Unfortunately, Lakeland struck for two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Hannah Nelson triple to secure the 9-1 victory.Â
Game 2
- Lakeland opened the nightcap with an eight-run first to seize control of the game. The Muskies had six hits in the inning, including a grand slam off the bat of Hannah Nelson, to grab a quick 8-0 advantage.Â
- However, relief pitcher Alexis Schuldt was absolutely locked in over the final five innings. Schuldt did not surrender a run after the first and allowed just one runner to reach third for the remainder of the game.Â
- The Regent offense finally got on the board with a single run in the fifth. Jocelyn Callahan drove in the RU run on an RBI single into right to make it 8-1.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was held scoreless over the final two innings and fell by a final score of 8-1.Â

- Emily Down was 1-for-3 with a double.
- Jocelyn Callahan finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.
- Alexis Schuldt made her third pitching appearance of the season. Schuldt went 5.1 innings, allowing no earned runs and did not walk a batter.Â
