ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team grabbed its second straight conference win with a 76-72 victory over the Edgewood College Eagles. The Regents led for nearly the entire game, holding control for 38 minutes and 31 seconds and leading by as much as 17, while the Eagles held the lead for just 20 seconds and their largest lead was just one. Edgewood actually attempted eight more shots and made two more than Rockford, but the Regents shot 20-27 (74.1%) from the free-throw line, compared to just 9-18 (50%) for the Eagles in what was the major difference in the game. With this win over Edgewood, Rockford sweeps the regular season series and extends its winning streak to five straight over the Eagles.
- Rockford roared out the gates and took a 16-6 lead to start the game. Five different Regents scored on this opening stretch, led by Jaden Bell with 5 points.
- The Eagles slowly worked their way back into the contest with an 11-4 run over the next 5 minutes and 10 seconds to make it a 20-17 score with 9 minutes and 35 seconds left in the half.
- However, the Regents were able to regain a two-possession lead and maintain at least a two-possession lead until Edgewood cut the Rockford lead to just one at 27-26 with 2 minutes and 43 seconds left in the half.
- The Regents closed out the first half with a 6-2 spurt and took a 33-28 lead into the break.
- Rockford came out hot in the second half with 10 straight points over the first 3 minutes to take a 43-28 lead. The Regents shot 3-4 (75%) from the floor, 1-1 (100%) from long range and were 3-3 (100%) from the charity stripe during the run.
- The two schools traded buckets over the next 10 and a half minutes, with Rockford able to maintain at least a double-digit lead until the Eagles were able to cut the Regent lead to seven at 60-53 with 6 minutes and 19 seconds left in regulation.
- Edgewood was able to bring the score to a one-possession game for the first time since the first half with a 9-5 run that made it a slight 65-62 Rockford lead.
- However, Rockford was able to hold off the late comeback bid by the Eagles, going 8-9 (88.8%) from the free-throw line over the last 2 minutes and 36 seconds to ice the game and secure the 76-72 win over Edgewood.
- Micah Swanson delivered a game-high 17 points and 7 rebounds, with 3 assists and 2 steals.
- Jaden Bell tallied 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.
