ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team took on the Concordia University Chicago Cougars at Sam Greeley Field on Saturday afternoon. The Regents fell 37-26.
Cartail Dickey went 20-for-41 for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air. He also added another score on the ground.
The Regents running game was stuck in the mud for most of the game.
William Key led the team in rushing with 31 yards on 13 carries.
Timothy Bearden once again led the team with 7 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.
Kenny Moten-Barden was explosive as well, hauling in just 2 passes but taking them both to the house for a total of 70 yards. Tight End
Nick James added 4 catches for 90 yards.
Three Regents eclisped double digit tackles in the game.
Joey Alvarez had 14, while
Napoleon Williams and
Joshua Harris each had 11.
Ethan Rager was a frequent guest in the backfield, notching 2 tackles-for-loss and a sack.
This game was a tale of two halves. Concordia Chicago owned the first half, scoring 14 points in each quarter to take a 28-0 lead into the break. The Regents offense couldn't find any rhythm.
Rockford got a spark of momentum off of the second half kickoff when Alvarez recovered a CUC fumble. Just a few plays later Dickey connected with Moten-Barden from 30 yards out to put the Regents on the board for the first time.
The Cougars sprinted out to a 37-6 lead before Rockford started their comeback. Dickey was able to find Bearden and Moten-Barden once again for a pair of long touchdowns and then crossed the goal line himself on a short QB draw that cut the deficit to 11.
Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough time left in the game for the comeback and Concordia Chicago was able to hold on for the win.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they head on the road to play St. Norbert at 1 p.m. CDT.
