Women's Volleyball Tops Marian on Senior Night

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team defeated NACC conference opponent, Marian University 3-2 Saturday on senior night. Set scores were 20-25, 25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 15-11.

Amelia Rodriguez compiled 17 kills, while Tamsy Leverton and Jalyn Rhodes had eight each. Ashley Miller made four aces.

In the assists department, Savannah Crooks had 20 and Leila Cooks made 14.

Defensively, Keara Ross and Ashley Miller each recorded 22 digs, and Rhodes led the team with four blocks.

The Regents only saw the lead twice and had it last in the first set when they led 2-1. The Sabres scored five-straight and never gave up the lead the entire rest of the set. RU had one more rally in them in the first set, scoring four unanswered to pull to within three at 23-20, but two errors from the Regents gave MU the first-set win.

The second set was a nearly identical from the first, except the Regents took the second. MU had a 3-1 lead and RU scored four unanswered and never looked back, as the Regents surged to a second-set victory.

MU got off to a fast start in the third set to take a 5-2 lead. Still up 8-6, the Regents answered scoring four straight to take a 10-8 lead, a lead that would never change the rest of the third set.

The Sabres bounced back in the fourth in a set that had a series of runs. With MU up 17-10, RU climbed all the way back to outscore MU 11-4 to tie the game at 21-21. During that stretch, Rodriguez recorded three kills and had one more after to tie the game again at 22-22. A kill from the Sabres and a kill from the Regents after that, had the game tied at 23-23, then a kill from MU and an attack error from RU eventually won the set for the Sabres to force a fifth set.

It was a difficult start for the Regents in the fifth set, as MU took a 3-0 lead to start. RU was resilient to score three-straight to tie the game. The Regents finally took the lead in the fifth set and never gave it up with a kill from Leverton, which was assisted by Ross. To end the match, RU scored four unanswered.

That was the final match of the 2025 Rockford women's volleyball season—special thanks to everyone who supported throughout the year.
