ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell 78-75 in a heartbreaking loss to the Marian University Sabres Saturday evening. Both teams had very similar statistics across the board. The Regents played extremely well in the first half, highlighted by outscoring the Sabres 24-11 in the second quarter and holding them to just 3-14 (21.4%) from the field during the quarter. This allowed Rockford to hold a 43-28 lead at the half. However, it turned out to be a tale of two halves as Marian outscored Rockford 50-32 in the second half and shot a blistering 57.7% from the field. Rockford did hold a slight 75-74 lead with 17 seconds left, but Marian knocked down the go-ahead basket with 13 seconds left. The Regents were unable to respond, allowing the Sabres to hold on for the tight 3-point victory.
- After trailing 9-3 to begin the contest, Rockford sprung itself into the lead with back-to-back-to-back three-pointers from Alyssa Havard, Jocelyn Callahan and Allie Wintemute to give the Regents a 12-9 lead.
- Both schools traded buckets over the final five minutes of the quarter with Rockford holding a slight 19-17 lead after one.
- The Regents roared out to a 13-point, 32-19 lead thanks to a 13-2 run to begin the second quarter. Rockford shot 3-6 (50%) from the field, 2-2 (100%) from deep and 5-5 (100%) from the line during the run.
- Marian cut into the Rockford lead with six straight points to make it a 32-25 game.
- Rockford closed out the first half with an 11-3 run to hold a 43-28 lead going into the break. The Regents shot 4-7 (57.1%) from the field and were led by D'Asia Washington with 6 points to close out the half.
- Marian quickly dropped the Regent lead to just six at 43-37 with nine straight points to start the second half.
- Rockford regained its double-digit lead and maintained at least a six-point lead for the remainder of the quarter, eventually holding a 57-49 lead heading into the fourth.
- Marian came out hot in the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to grab a 58-57 lead, their first lead since early in the first quarter.
- Both schools battled back and forth, with four lead changes and two ties over the next four and a half minutes, but the Sabres were eventually able to take a 72-66 lead with just 3 minutes and 31 seconds left in regulation.
- Rockford was able to battle all the way back with a 9-2 run, capped off by a D'Asia Washington layup with 17 seconds left to give the Regents a late 75-74 lead.
- Unfortunately, Marian's Chelsea King buried the go-ahead basket with 13 seconds left to give the Sabres a 77-75 lead and held off Rockford for the final seconds to win by a final score of 78-75.
- D'Asia Washington tied her career-high with 24 points on an impressive 10-13 (76.9%) performance from the field. Washington also added 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.
- Allie Wintemute added a career-high 9 points, with a perfect 3-3 (100%) from beyond the arc. She also put up 2 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal.
- Alyssa Havard put up 10 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, 1 block and 1 steal.
- Katie Paredes had 7 points, a game-high 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.
- Jocelyn Callahan had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
