NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Regents struggles continued over the weekend going 0-4 at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament hosted by North Central College. The Regents fell to #24 ranked Carthage College (25-7, 25-15, 25-11) and North Central College (25-14, 25-15, 25-19) in straight sets on Friday.
The Regents got off to a slow start against Carthage as they were only ably to record 2 kills in the first set. Rockford would get better as the match went on but were no match for the #24 ranked Lady Reds. Sophomore outside hitter Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) led the way for Regents with team-high 5 kills to go along 10 digs and the lone service ace for Rockford. The Regents slow start would carry over to their second match against North Central. The ladies were only able to record 3 kills in the first set as they would eventually fall to the Cardinals. Senior outside hitter Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) paced the team in match two recording a team high 8 kills to go along with 11 digs.
Saturday Rockford played considerably better despite falling to Wheaton College (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) and Simpson College (25-15, 25-21, 25-18). Errors were the difference maker in their third match against Wheaton as Rockford recorded a combined 23 errors for the match. Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) once again led the Regents with a team-high 11 kills to go along with 11 digs. Freshmen setter Emily Johnson (Santee, Calif./Santana) also played well with 2 kills, 26 assists, and 5 digs. The Regents troubles would continue against Simpson as they once again were unable to overcome 23 errors in their match. Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) carried over her strong play from Friday against Simpson as she recorded a match high 10 kills to go along with 7 digs and 1 service ace.
The Regents next match will be on October 16th on the road as they travel to Benedictine University at 7:00 p.m. in Lisle, Ill. Rockford will return home on October 19th as they welcome Marian University to the Seaver Center at 7:00 p.m.
