CHICAGO, Ill.- The Rockford University women's basketball season began Friday night in the Chicago tournament as they faced the host team University of Chicago. The opener did not go as planned as Rockford found themselves in an early hole that was too much to overcome. Chicago led 52-21 at halftime and came away with a 87-45 victory. The Regents finished with 41 rebounds, 8 assists, and shot 31.1% from the field.
Leading the way scoring for Rockford was Lindsay Lengjak (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah). The senior scored 12 points on 5 of 13 shooting. She also added seven rebounds. The Regents bench was very productive after some of the starters found themselves into foul trouble. The bench scored 23 points and was led by junior transfer Katie Clark (Rock City, Ill./Dakota). She had ten rebounds and was one point shy of a double-double in her first game as a Regent. Also getting into the action off of the bench was Cierra Johnson (St. Louis, Mo./O'Fallon Township) who scored six points and Lauren Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) and Arielle Nichols (Tampa, Fla./Land O' Lakes) who both scored four points.
On Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Rockford takes on Illinois Institute for Technology for third place in the Chicago Tournament. Illinois Tech lost to Coe College 39-91 Saturday night. They then take on Knox College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for their home opener. Rockford beat Knox last year 77-66.
