MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team dropped its first true road match of the season in straight sets on Tuesday night to the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. Monmouth was in control for much of the evening, winning the sets by final scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-18. Despite the loss, Rockford's
Alexis Brashaw had yet another career night at the net. Brashaw smashed home a career-high 9 kills on just 16 attempts, for an impressive .500 hitting percentage.
- The opening set of the match got off to a rocky start, with the Regents quickly falling behind 10-3.
- However, Rockford was able to use a 9-6 run and nearly cut the deficit in half, at 16-12. Five different Regents had kills over that span, led by 2 from Alexis Brashaw.
- Unfortunately, Monmouth closed the set strong to take a quick 1-0 advantage.
- Rockford again got off to a slow start in the second set, this time trailing 10-5.
- Once again the Regents put together a solid run over the middle portion of the set. Rockford made it a one-point game on two separate occasions, the latter of which came at 14-13 off an Alexis Brashaw kill.
- However, it was Monmouth who once again seized control late in the set and extended its lead to 2-0.
- The third set was much closer with Rockford and Monmouth each leading multiple times over the first 20 points.
- With the match tied at 10-10, the Fighting Scots scored the next 7 points to seize control of the set and ultimately the match.
- The Regents were unable to get any closer than 3 points the rest of the way, dropping the third set and the match.
