MEQUON, Wis. - The Rockford University football team fell 66-21 on the road Saturday afternoon at Concordia University Wisconsin. The Falcons scored the first 38 points of the game and never looked back. CUW scored in every quarter, including a trio of touchdowns in each of the first two. However, Rockford did play significantly better over the final 35 minutes of the game. The Regents found the end zone towards the end of the second quarter and then twice more in the second half, including perhaps the most exciting play of the day. Rockford's
Jaelen Ray connected with
Da'Quan McIntosh for a 99-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, which ties the longest play from scrimmage in NCAA history. Unfortunately, it was not enough, as the Falcons racked up 603 yards of total offense in the game en route to their seventh win of the season.
- Following a Jack Carey interception on the Falcons' second play of the game, CUW proceeded to score on their next nine drives, including eight touchdowns.
- Ashar Thomas recorded a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter and gave CUW an early 14-0 lead.
- Michael Purkey then tossed touchdown strikes of 4 and 20 yards to extend the Falcons' advantage to 28-0.
- CUW would add a 22-yard field goal by Logan Navis and Michael Purkey's third touchdown of the first half, this one from 29 yards out, to take a commanding 38-0 lead.
- Rockford finally began to find some rhythm offensively with just over six minutes left in the second quarter. The Regents moved the ball 69 yards on 7 plays, capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run by Jaelen Ray.
- However, the Falcons answered with a score of their own. CUW's Jerrell Carey found the end zone on a 1-yard plunge, to give his team a 45-7 advantage heading into halftime.
- Concordia Wisconsin picked up right where it left off in the first half, with a 24-yard Michael Purkey touchdown pass on the Falcons' opening drive of the third quarter.
- Rockford would respond with a touchdown of its own on the very next possession. The Regents marched the ball 73 yards on 9 plays, including a 13-yard touchdown strike from Jaelen Ray to Da'Quan McIntosh. Kaden Finnestad added the point after to make it a 52-14 game.
- The Regents would then make history a couple of drives later on their second possession of the fourth quarter.
- Backed up at their own 1-yard line following a CUW punt, Rockford needed just one play to find the end zone. Quarterback Jaelen Ray hit Da'Quan McIntosh for a school, NACC and NCAA record 99-yard touchdown pass. The play is also tied for the longest play from scrimmage in NCAA history.
- Unfortunately, it was not enough though, as CUW went on to win the game by a final score of 66-21.
- Da'Quan McIntosh caught 6 passes for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- Jaelen Ray went 21-36 for 243 yards and 2 passing touchdowns. Ray also had 9 yards on the ground and 1 rushing touchdown.
