MEQUON, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team lost a defensive battle 50-39 on the road Wednesday evening to Concordia University Wisconsin. Rockford struggled to find its rhythm offensively for most of the night. The Regents scored just 11 points in the first half and shot only 26.9% from the floor for the evening. However, it was another solid performance out of the RU defense that kept the Regents in the game. Rockford held the Falcons to 34.8% shooting and only one made three-pointer the entire night. Despite the loss, Rockford still remains within one game of Lakeland University for the eighth and final spot in the NACC Tournament. Rockford will need to win its final game of the regular season on Saturday at Dominican and hope Lakeland loses at home to Benedictine. If both those occur, the Regents will secure the eighth and final spot in the 2024 NACC Tournament by virtue of its 61-51 win over Lakeland earlier in the year.
- The Falcons scored the first six points of the game to take a 6-0 lead at the 4:32 mark.
- However, the Regents closed the low-scoring first quarter on a 5-1 run, to pull back within two at 7-5. Audrina Terhune led the charge scoring the final three points of the period.
- Rockford got back to within a single point after Nia Wilkerson drained a triple to make it 9-8 with 7:43 remaining in the first half.
- Unfortunately, the Falcons closed the quarter on a 13-3 spurt, including scoring the final six points of the half, to take a 22-11 advantage into the intermission.
- CUW built its lead up to as many as 23 points in the third before Rockford worked its way back into the game.
- The Regents closed the third quarter on an 11-1 run to make it a 38-25 game heading into the fourth.
- Rockford never quit and continued to battle until the very end. The Regents got all the back to within seven late in the game following a 10-1 run. Audrina Terhune scored five points over that span and Nia Wilkerson hit her third triple of the game to make it 46-39 with 1:43 left.
- Unfortunately, the Falcons ended the game going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line to secure the 50-39 win.
