LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University football team lost its first game of the season 34-7 on Saturday at Benedictine University. The Eagles scored the first 20 points of the game and never really looked back. Rockford was able to momentarily make it a two-score game at 20-7, but unfortunately could not get any closer the remainder of the way. The biggest difference in the game was the Eagles ability to run the ball and stop the run. Benedictine outgained the Regents 248-40 on the ground and 479-206 in total offense.
- The Eagles scored a touchdown on their opening drive of the game. Benedictine marched the ball 79 yards on 8 plays, capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass by Cooper Little for a 7-0 lead.
- Benedictine added another touchdown later in the first quarter off a 27-yard Little touchdown pass to make it a 14-0 game.
- The Eagles continued their scoring spree with another touchdown on their first possession of the second quarter. Benedictine went 68 yards on 8 plays to take a 20-0 lead.
- Rockford was finally able to respond with its first touchdown of the game on its ensuing drive.
- The Regents marched 65 yards on 7 plays, capped off by a 42-yard touchdown run on fourth and two by Jack Carey. Kaden Finnestad added the point after to make it a 20-7 game.
- Unfortunately, Benedictine scored two possessions later on an 88-yard touchdown pass to push its lead to 27-7 heading into the half.
- The third quarter was a defensive struggle. The Regents and Eagles combined for no points and two turnovers in the period, including a Joey Alvarez forced fumble.
- The Eagles would essentially put the game away with their fifth touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter. Benedictine used 7 minutes off the clock, going 97 yards on 13 plays to make it a 34-7 game.
- Unfortunately, the Regents were unable to score the remainder of the game and dropped their 16th straight meeting against the Eagles.
