PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Rockford University men's basketball team rallied for an impressive 96-81 road win at Lakeland University on Saturday afternoon. Rockford absolutely dominated Lakeland in the second half, outscoring the Muskies 62-42 over the final 20 minutes. The Regents shot exactly 60% from the floor and 46.2% from long range, while holding the Muskies to just 37.5% from the field and 22.2% from three in the second half. It was also another strong performance on the glass throughout the game for the Regents. Rockford outrebounded Lakeland 48-28, which lead to a commanding 23-9 advantage in second chance points. The win avenges a home loss to the Muskies earlier in the year and moves Rockford back to .500 (5-5) in NACC play this season.
- After Rockford took a quick 3-0 lead on a DeVon Oregon triple to begin the game, the Muskies scored the next five to take their first lead of the day.Â
- The Regents did not have the lead again until Malik Marshall converted a three-point play at the 11:01 mark to put his team back in front 18-16. Rockford added another five points on a Seth Childers triple and a Cooper Jackson layup, which was a part of larger 10-0 Regent run, to make it a 23-13 game with 10:03 left in the first half.Â
- With Rockford now leading by eight following a Noody Lacey three-pointer at the 2:51 mark, Lakeland scored the final 13 points of the half to take a 39-34 lead into the break.
- Lakeland pushed its lead to as many as six early in the second. However, Rockford responded by scoring nine straight, capped off by a Jaden Bell layup, to jump back in front 49-46.
- There were a pair of ties and lead changes over the next several minutes before the Regents took control of the game.Â
- Rockford's lead hovered around four points until a Cooper Jackson dunk, a Jaden Bell tip-in and a Noody Lacey jumper made it a 75-65 RU advantage.
- With Rockford now leading 80-72 and 3:36 left in regulation, the Regents went on a 9-0 run to essentially put the game out of reach. Rockford was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and 2-of-2 at the free throw line over that span, led by four points from DeVon Oregon.Â
