ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell 53-41 to the Cornell College Rams in a Saturday afternoon non-conference meeting. The Rams controlled the lead for a large part of the afternoon, holding it for 30 minutes and 38 seconds while Rockford held the lead for just 5 minutes and 52 seconds. Despite this, the game was a battle and the Regents overcame a 9-point deficit out of the half and eventually held a 36-35 lead by the end of the third quarter. Unfortunately, Cornell outscored Rockford 18-5 in the fourth quarter, which allowed them to walk away with the 12-point victory.
- Cornell quickly took a 7-0 lead to open the first quarter.
- Rockford was able to crawl back to within one with an 8-2 run, which was led by Katie Paredes with 6 points during the stretch.
- The Regents eventually grabbed their first lead of the day after back-to-back triples from Lexi Keating gave RU the 14-12 lead and Rockford eventually closed out the quarter with a slight 14-13 lead.
- The Rams were in control in the second quarter, quickly taking control of the lead and ultimately putting together a 17-7 run over the span of the quarter to take a 9-point 30-21 lead into the break.
- After Cornell quickly grabbed the first double-digit lead of the game at 31-21, Rockford was able to put together a massive 11-2 run to cut the Rams lead down to 1 at 33-32 with just under 3 minutes left in the quarter. Rockford shot 3-6 (50%) from the field and 5-6 (83.3%) from the line, while holding Cornell to 0-9 from the field during the run.
- The Regents were eventually able to take control of the lead and close out the quarter in front 36-35.
- Rockford went on a 4-1 spurt to open the fourth quarter, to give the Regents their largest lead of the day at 40-36.
- However, the Rams followed that up with a huge 17-1 run over the final 7 minutes to take control of the game and eventually close out for the 53-41 win.
