ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford women's volleyball team fell in a five-set match to non-conference opponent, Knox, on Tuesday at the Seaver Center. Set scores were in favor of the Prairie Fire were 22-25, 25-19, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13.
Ashley Miller had 15 kills and 37 digs while
Amelia Rodriguez and
Tamsy Leverton compiled 13 kills each.
Leila Cooks also added 31 digs while also leading the Regents in assists with 27.
Isabella Valdes and
Keara Ross also recorded double figures in assists with 19 and 10 each.
Jalyn Rhodes added 4 blocks.
RU held off Knox in the first set after a comeback effort from the Prairie Fire. Up 19-13, Knox pulled to within one at 22-21 before the Regents scored three straight finished off with a kill from
Jayce Shaw.
In a back and forth second set, Knox pulled away outscoring RU 9-1 after being tied at six to go up 15-7, as the Regents could never recover falling short in the second set.
The Prairie Fire claimed the third set completing their comeback after trailing for most of the set. Leverton planted a kill to put the Regents ahead 25-24 until three straight errors from RU completed the Knox comeback.
In the fourth, Knox never gained the lead as RU was able to hold off a comeback effort from the Prairie Fire as Leverton sealed it with a kill for the Regents in the fourth.
The Regents struggled in the fifth committing eight errors as Knox won a close 15-13 final set.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a 7 p.m. CDT NACC contest against Concordia University Chicago at the Seaver Center.
