LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team dropped its match 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 18-25, 21-25) on the road at Benedictine University on Thursday night. The Regents came out strong winning the first set, but unfortunately, lost the next three. Rockford hit the ball extremely well in the opening set, tallying 15 kills on 43 attempts for an impressive .302 hitting percentage. However, the Regents' hitting percentage fell to .098, .097 and .033 in the second, third and fourth sets respectively. Conversely the Eagles were more efficient in the final three sets, recording hitting percentages of .245, .282 and .100.
- Rockford never trailed at any point in the first set.
- The Regents scored the first two points and eventually built their lead up to as many as six at 14-8. Rockford used a 4-0 run, capped off by a Madisen Perry kill, to get to grab its six-point lead.
- The Eagles were able to chop the RU lead down to one on two separate occasions, including at 18-17.Â
- Fortunately, Rockford closed on a 7-3 run to take the opening set 25-20. Madisen Perry led the way with four kills, while Melody Moreno smashed home a kill for the final point to give Rockford a 1-0 lead.Â
- The Regents again got off to a fast start in the second set by taking an early 4-1 advantage.Â
- The score would bounce back and forth with 3 lead changes and 7 ties, including at 15-15, over the next 25 points.Â
- Benedictine then seized control of the set by scoring the next 7 points en route to winning the set 25-18 and tying the match at 1-1.Â
- Rockford continued its streak of fast starts by jumping out to an 11-6 lead in the third set. The Regents used a balanced attack with four different players recording a kill over that span.Â
- With the Regents now holding a 2-point edge at 16-14, Benedictine closed on an 11-2 run to win the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match.Â
- The fifth set followed the exact same pattern with Rockford scoring the first few points and grabbing the early advantage. The Regents led by as many as three at 8-5 following a Melody Moreno ace and again at 10-7.
- However, the Eagles responded with a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the set at 12-11.Â
- The score then went back and forth with four lead changes over the next 17 points, as the two teams were now tied at 20-20.Â
- Unfortunately, Benedictine again closed strong, this time with a 5-1 run to end the match and secure the 3-1 victory.
- Madisen Perry finished with a match-high 18 kills and 14 digs.Â
- Jasmine Landberg set a career-high with 30 digs and 5 assists.Â
- Melody Moreno tallied her second straight double-double and her fifth of the season with 23 digs, 10 kills, 2 assists and an ace.Â
- Leila Cooks added 21 assists and 16 digs.Â
