Coach Steve Crick was faced with building a competitive team when he joined the coaching staff in 1984. He turned to the junior college ranks where he found five gems who came together to create arguably the strongest women's athlete team in Regent history.

The catalyst of that team was a lightning quick very confident point guard, Carie Walker. After two years at Black Hawk Community College, Carie came to Rockford to finish her degree in Physical Education and play basketball and softball.

Diminutive in size but monstrous in spirit, Carie ran the show for the women's basketball program that went 40-11 over the next two years including a 25-2 mark in conference, a NIIC Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Carie averaged 13.5 ppg with her patented drives through the middle and led the Regents fast break. She a force on both sides of the court as she accumulated 336 assists and 170 steals. In 1986-87, Carie was selected All-NIIC and named an honorable mention All-American by the American Basketball Coaches Association.

On the softball diamond, Carie anchored the Regents infield at shortstop while also leading the team in batting average and on-base percentage, which earned her All-NIIC honors in a second sport.

Her senior year her classmetes honored Carie by awarding her the Presidents Cup for Sportsmanship as well as being named Female Athlete of the Year.
